the unexpected

WOW - we've been running in turbo speed around here lately.
We are smack dab in the middle (slightly past the middle) of 2 weeks that I saw coming on my calendar and tried to prepare myself for.
You know those crazy busy weeks that are STARING at you on your calendar as you approach them.
Ready or not, they came.
And we are surviving not only the PLANNED but the UNPLANNED.

UNPLANNED: My sinus infection is still hanging on - sinus headache almost every day.
2nd round of antibiotics.
I was SURE that it was good timing when I got it - thinking I'd get it over with and then not be sick for our trip to Michigan.
But here we are - leaving tomorrow and still have some lingering effects.
But I've been cleared to go, as of now.

PLANNED: Monday we hit the road as a family so I could go to Lee's Summit, MO.
I was asked to speak at a Premier training there and was excited and honored to go.
We took the kids, knowing we'd be away from them later this week when we leave for Michigan.

UNPLANNED:  Dave came home and said he hadn't felt right since lunch.  But we didn't think too much of it.  Half way to Missouri - I had to start driving because he wasn't feeling good at all.  He had planned to watch the kids in the basement of our friend's house where I'd be training - so I prayed that the kids would be good and he could just rest.  Little did I know, as I was upstairs training - he was in and out of the bathroom puking like crazy.

UNPLANNED:  With about 20 minutes left to go in our training, we heard a BIG thump!  I could tell one of my kids was injured, but I figured Dad had it under control.  Until I was called down.  Taylor was playing, and tripped and hit the shard edge of the wall and split her forehead open.  We headed to the ER.  Leaving Mason behind.  Later I was SO thankful for such great friends and even their kids who took such good care of Mason and loved on him once he realized we were gone and flipped out.

PLANNED:  We were supposed to be driving home after training was over - planning to get back home around midnight so we could carry on with Tuesday's plans.  Lots to do, lots to do!

UNPLANNED: 2.5 hours waiting to see a Dr.
Here's my view from my chair in the ER room after we were checked in.

(sorry for the picture quality - pics are all from my phone)

Taylor screamed hysterically when she heard we had to take her to the hospital. But luckily she calmed down on the way there.
She had time to color lots of pictures while we waited.
Dave got on the bed with her so he could lay down - he was still not feeling well at all. We thought maybe the puking was over.  But it wasn't.
Oh yeah, and Mason - he was screaming his head off for 1.5 hours back at our friends house.
They were trying everything they could to calm him down - until he finally zonked out.
I was relieved.

Then these 2 zonked out too.
I had just gotten a text picture of Mason snoozing away on the couch back at our friends house - to let me know I could relax now.
And then I looked up and saw this.
It was a very peaceful feeling knowing that my whole family was sleeping in the midst of all that was going on.
I sat there, and just sighed a bit of relief, and thanked God for this moment.

We finally saw the Dr. and Taylor got 5 stitches.  The cut was pretty deep.
And what perfect timing for Dave to start puking again.
The Dr. was talking to me while my husband was puking in the trash can in the corner.

Getting the anesthesia was the worst part - she was strapped down in a straight jacket type thing and Mommy and Daddy both teared up a bit as we held on to her.
But then she was so brave while she was getting stitched up!
She even reminded us that she was now going to have stitches just like Uncle Jim and so they could be twins!

As sick as Dave was (we are 99.9% sure it was food poisoning)- he wouldn't leave his little girl's side.
The Dr. even suggested he leave the room (she was a little rude and unsympathetic), but there was no way he was leaving.

We left the ER around 11:30, too late and Dave was too sick to ride in a car for 3 hours to get home.
Thanks to the Kliewers for hooking us up with sweats, contact solution and disposable toothbrushes!

UNPLANNED (but a blessing): We got home and all crashed for about 3 hours.
Tuesday's plans were all cancelled - we needed the night at home.
Taylor is doing fine - she's proud of her stitches and little dramatic at times.
Dave's much better too.

Someday I will catch up on the Rainbow Party, the Pumpkin Patch, Taylor's actual birthday and everything else.  For now, we are off to Michigan to love Sydney and the rest of the family!

i teared up thinking about how hard that had to have been. the stitches is so traumatic. when they strap them down the mama bear in you comes out right?!! Get away from my baby! when sean got his he cried so hard that he fell asleep for the actual stitches part! he was almost 2. makes me tense just thinking about it. and i was asked to leave also. but i didn't! no way.
that sounds like the worst night ever amanda.

rest up.
